Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Yesterday was a magical day.  After saying goodbye to Zenah for hopefully only a few months, and waving farewell to Terry and Dave as they began the 10-hour roundtrip journey to take her home, Margaret and I decided to go for a walk.  The Horner's like walking and we usually get in at least one good one when we visit.  And every time I go on one of these walks, I always want to live in England.  Here's why:  Yesterday, no sooner had I said, "Wanna go for a walk?", it started snowing!  It was beautiful, but I knew better than to get to excited.  Being a Southern girl, I know that snow starts and then stops, just as you've pulled on all your warms clothes, wrapped yourself up in a scarf and opened the back door to run out and catch a few flakes.  I did pull out my camera and take a few pictures of the backyard, as the snow was coming down kind of heavy.

Still, we bundled up and headed off to Rufford Park.  As we drove, the snow kept falling and was even starting to stick to the ground a little.  We pulled off the road into a car park that reminded me of parking at Sweet Water State Park.  Only this was no Sweet Water.  To get to the walking trails, you walk under a beautiful archway of trees and suddenly, a castle stands before you.  It was amazing.  We walked through another archway, surrounded by families out for a Saturday stroll.  There were so many people- kids on skates and bikes, people walking their dogs, old people, young people, and the snow just kept falling.  And the flakes were getting bigger.

We walked down the trails, and I constantly exclaimed, probably to Margaret's amusement and then irritation, how gorgeous it all was.  The lake was frozen and there was a line of ducks, geese and swans walking from one side to the other.  The snowflakes got bigger and bigger until they were the size of a 50-cent piece, easily!  It was so amazing and so peaceful and I forgot to be cold at all.  (I didn't take that picture.)  It was truly magical and my only regret was not taking my camera along because, as I mentioned, I fully expected that the snow was going to stop before we even got there.  Jokes on me, huh?

Early tomorrow morning we are heading back to Guatemala.  It is a delicious feeling to not be dreading it.  That's not to say I'm ready to go back to work... but that has more to do with having had a wonderful holiday than going to Guate or school.  I am actually looking forward to seeing friends again... and BAY!  I missed that puppy an awful lot!  I know she will be glad to see us.  And I can't wait to hug on her- even though she won't like that!

Safe travels to all my friends who are heading back to school.  We'll see you soon!
