The day was not perfect for kite flying- it wasn't windy enough. But it was sunny and warm and occasionally, there was a big enough breeze to lift one of the massive kites into the air and above the crowd gathered in the cemetery below. We got there early and saw hundreds of people hard at work, cleaning and decorating the graves of loved ones and friends, making sure they were beautiful for the Kite Festival. It's the happiest I've ever felt in a cemetery- there was a definite air of celebration, of life, of death and of the hard work that went into making the amazing kites. Most were bigger than me, though peddlers wandered between the crypts, selling smaller versions of the giant kites. They also sold pizza, candy, and toys you would normally find in the ninety-nine cents or less section of your local dollar store. The sky was a vibrant blue, the clouds, white and puffy and there were so many colors everywhere- in the kites waiting to take off, the giant kites, several stories high, which were hauled up against telephone poles and put on display for all to see. It was a truly amazing sight and one that I would definitely go see again. In other updates, November is Movember in the Horner Household. Movember was started to bring about awareness of prostate cancer and men's depression. Several of the men at our school, including my very own beloved, have been growing out their 'staches in support of the cause. Dave has gone with the handlebar variety, though it reaches down towards his chin, and not out towards his ears. Either way, it's... uh... interesting. Pictures will follow.
And finally, I am still hard at work on my novel. I have complete over 25,000 words (just) which means I am half-way to my goal of 50,000. This has been an incredible experience so far and I hope that the stories keep coming so I can finish it. No, I know I will finish it. Along the way, I have already come up with two other ideas- the other novel I was proposing when I started this one and a script. April is National Script Writing Month and I'm going to try and do that one too. It's amazing how much work I can get done when I turn off the TV. Of course, my knitting and my husband are suffering from a severe lack of attention.
